Hello everyone! So a couple of weeks ago, I watched the new horror release 'Mama' and I was really hyped up to see this because I love horror films and the trailer was thrilling, but i was really disappointed as it turns out all the best bits are in the trailer.
For half the film it was mostly storytelling and setting the mise-en-scene, which I appreciate however I felt like they dragged this out as it lasted about 50 minutes.
Then once the tension had reached maximum and you think "right about now it's going to get horrifically scary and I will regret watching this" the tension levels stayed neutral and it was a massive disappointment. The whole film is revolved around the aspect of 'Mama', a troubled ghost just trying to protect these girls and that is a very good idea however the way that they created the image of her just ruined it. In my opinion, they made her too animated and less realistic which means less scary and more disappointment.
I also found that the ending of the film was very distressing and dramatic however at the same time it was more like a disney channel film as like I said, It was very animated and less believable which means you can't relate to it, which is the key to making a scary film as if you can relate to it, it becomes more real and hence more scary.
Overall, I think this film was decent as I was never bored whilst watching it, however it didn't live up to the massive hyped that was created about its release. But if you like thrillers that aren't necessarily scary, then this would be a great movie.

It then jumps to a CSI type of scene where the uncle of the girls rushes o the house because he heard the drama and for a couple years, the girls were never found. Then he receives some news that the investigation had succeed and they found the girls in this house in the middle of the forest. However, there is something not right about the girls, as if they are possessed.
The uncle and his rock-obsessed girlfriend adopt the girls but throughout the film they are battling the grandma to keep them.
