Internet volcabulary | Shipping, Fandoms & Fanfiction

Hello everyone! So after spending mass amounts of time on the internet these past 5 weeks (it's the summer holidays) I have realised how foreign the internet can be to so many people, especially the older generation. What I mean by this is that over the last 5 years, 'fandoms' have been created, by word of mouth, people, films, bands, TV series etc have now got a massive following. In these fandoms, new words have been created and more words now have different meanings. So with the ever-changing world, I thought I would go over some words which I & and millions of others use :-)

"Shipping"
This is a commonly used term on the internet which I have used in previous posts. It is normally used around two celebrities who are with each other a lot. Shipping means that the fans of those two people will pretend that they are in a relationship (hence 'shipping') & many people ship celebrities in an romantic way, however most likely that the pairing is two males as the people who ship the most are teenage girls, who are most known as 'Shippers'
An example?
For example, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson from One Direction are often shipped together because they always look at each-other in a certain way or have a very close friendship, that's all it takes for a fandom to say "oh they must be in love!". However instead of just saying the "Harry Styles & Louis Tomlinson shipping" You merge the two names together to create "Larry Stylinson" which is the name of the relationship, or 'Larry' for short. Another example would be 'Zalfie' the shipping of Zoe from Zoella and Alfie from Pointlessblog.
Sometimes, people say "my ship has sailed" implying that two people who you ship are in an official relationship, like 'Zalfie' is genuinely real. On the other hand, some people might say "my ship has sunk" if the two people who you 'ship' have had a falling out or both married, something like that.

Can you only ship one couple at a time?
Absolutely not, many people have multiple 'ships'. However, there is something called an 'OTP' which stands for One True Pairing. This is the ship that you most believe in and put all your effort in to believe that it is real, basically your overall favourite ship.
*If you want to ship people, go wild but the internet (especially twitter and tumblr) are very sensitive over shipping. All you have to do is not offend anyone's OTP by saying "It's fake" because they will get mad at you 70% of the time and please respect other peoples views*

Ironic Abbreviation
This factor is so commonly used that I was blind to it until Mr Dan Howell aka Danisnotonfire cleverly pointed it out in a video called "Ironic Appreciation". Basically, in 2012 using the words 'lol' or 'brb' so was 'uncool' shall we say that you might as well be shunned to hell, that's how unaccepted it was. Then in 2013, people started Ironically saying things like "lol" and "brb" as a type of mockery to previous years. However over the course of the year, so many people are using text talk ironically that it has become serious and people, including myself, are genuinely using text talk seriously.
So as you know there are the common "Lol" which means laugh out loud and "brb" which means be right back, but now things have to developed into "s2g" which means Swear to god (for example, "s2g if my otp is real i will cry") or "ygm" which means "you get me" ("i s2g if my otp is real i will cry ygm")
The more most popular people in the fanbase use text talk the most, as it's funny and will get retweets.

Emotive Words
Seeing as there is a lot of emotion on the internet due to obsessions and bands etc etc, the use of capitals and adjectives has become very common. However, it is always very unclear which emotion the fangirl is trying to portray. For example, the use of upper and lower case can represent anger, excitement & humour ('I'm scREAMING)
Adjectives can also portray didn't emotions. "I'm crying" for example could mean happiness, anger, sadness or excitement. 'Crying' is the most common adjective however now people use words such as 'sobbing' or 'snorting' depending on how intense the feeling is.

Fandoms
oh god, where do I start? well, people who are fans of something are called fangirls as the majority of the fans are girls. (Also, fangirls are known to be excessively obsessed) A group of fangirls create a fandom, a magical place where you can rave about your favourite thing with many others like yourself without your parents telling you to "stop talking about that boy" or "you have already made me listen to that album 4 times".
However, obviously in fandoms everything becomes more intense because more people see the same beauty it whatever you obsess over, and 'ships' are born, then obsessively wrote about in 'fanfictions'
Fanfictions are very creative I would say and are stories about your 'otp' forming a relationship. However, they are mostly horrifically sexually and I, personally don't read them because i will probably throw-up everything I had previously eaten within the last 9 years.
((be careful when joining a fandom because they are ife destroying and you end up just on twitter for days on end, I come from personal experience))

Well there you have it, now you are ready to enter the internet! I hope you enjoyed this post, I tried to use a style of "act like being internet-obsessed is an actual art so that I have a talent" ha!
Also, sorry if this offended you in anyway because I can see how it could be slightly patronising, but I wrote with the best intentions :-)

Need inspiration?

We all reach these points during blogging where we lose inspiration and determination to post, I know I have! Sometimes, all it needs for me personally to get back into blogging is a big push. Not a literal push of course, just a big boost of inspiration. However, it's really hard to find an event or person that just changes my mood and makes me want to blog 24/7. I understand that something can be mind-blowing to someone, but to another person it can be pretty average.
As many of you already know, I 100% adore the blogger/youtuber/goddess Zoe Sugg (or more known as Zoella) for many reasons, but this weekend she particularly inspired me to blog more and not give up.
On the 17th of February 2009, when I was in year 6, Zoe started her blog which was then called "Schoee" innocently as she enjoyed writing. 4 years down the line, She has nearly 2 million subscribers on youtube, 613k twitter followers and 50,000 google followers on her blog.
"If someone said to me 4 years ago, when I started this blog, that in 4 years time, you'd be sat opposite one of the worlds biggest boy bands interviewing them, and getting to meet them and speak to them (and give them multiple hugs), I'd have laughed in their face"
(A quote from Zoe's blog post, "Meeting One Direction" )
Last Monday, Zoe interviewed One Direction, one of the biggest boyband's of all time. I'm personally not a fan of 1D but I know that they have a huge following and the fact that Zoe, who started off just like all of us, having a little fun on a blog, was invited to interview them and attended the world premiere of 1D's new movie "This Is Us" really blows my mind.

This is Zoe at the 1D premiere!
[Taken from her Twitter @Zozeebo]

What i'm trying to say is that Zoe is a massive inspiration for me and probably many others reading this because she always drives me to do better and try harder generally in life, as eventually it will pay off somehow. Obviously, I'm not saying that I'm only blogging to 'get famous' or whatever, I blog because I have loads of thoughts and ideas that I weirdly think should be shared. I'm saying that I'm stunned by how far you can come from a simple hobby!

If you would like to see more about Zoe's trip down the red carpet, Here is her post!
Who is your inspiration?

P.S I have Pinterest! I thought I should give it a go and I would love you to follow me on it! You get to see me trying to understand how to use it, that could be entertaining!

'Mama' Horror film| Review

Hello everyone! So a couple of weeks ago, I watched the new horror release 'Mama' and I was really hyped up to see this because I love horror films and the trailer was thrilling, but i was really disappointed as it turns out all the best bits are in the trailer.
For half the film it was mostly storytelling and setting the mise-en-scene, which I appreciate however I felt like they dragged this out as it lasted about 50 minutes.
Then once the tension had reached maximum and you think "right about now it's going to get horrifically scary and I will regret watching this" the tension levels stayed neutral and it was a massive disappointment. The whole film is revolved around the aspect of 'Mama', a troubled ghost just trying to protect these girls and that is a very good idea however the way that they created the image of her just ruined it. In my opinion, they made her too animated and less realistic which means less scary and more disappointment.
I also found that the ending of the film was very distressing and dramatic however at the same time it was more like a disney channel film as like I said, It was very animated and less believable which means you can't relate to it, which is the key to making a scary film as if you can relate to it, it becomes more real and hence more scary.
Overall, I think this film was decent as I was never bored whilst watching it, however it didn't live up to the massive hyped that was created about its release. But if you like thrillers that aren't necessarily scary, then this would be a great movie.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Some Background Info*
'Mama' is a horror/thriller film directed & co-written by Andres Muschietti. It is set in mid Winter where a man who seemed to have a mental breakdown although no real explanation was shown, and he drove himself and his two daughters off the edge of a cliff. They all miraculously survive with merely cuts or bruises, and they all discover a house in the middle of the woods. They enter & place themselves near a fireplace. After a jump-shot, the scene returns with the dad carrying one of the girls into a different room whilst crying, and holding a gun to her head. However, just before he attempts to ill her, a mysterious shadow takes the dad into the depths of the darkness and he never returns into the movie.
It then jumps to a CSI type of scene where the uncle of the girls rushes o the house because he heard the drama and for a couple years, the girls were never found. Then he receives some news that the investigation had succeed and they found the girls in this house in the middle of the forest. However, there is something not right about the girls, as if they are possessed.
The uncle and his rock-obsessed girlfriend adopt the girls but throughout the film they are battling the grandma to keep them.
The two sisters start mentioning this "Mama" in consultations and slowly, people start to realise that mama is real and is very dangerous.
You later find out that Mama is just a distressed ghost with a very sensitive past and is trying to find her dead baby.

My Reaction to 'Zalfie' | Fangirl view

Hello everyone!! this blog post is very out of context & may not make any sense but I just need to say my opinion about 'Zalfie' (The relationship name of Zoella and PointlessBlog
First off, I know this isn't any of my business but I just love them so so much, I just want them to know (if they ever saw this) that I 100% support them and agree with every decision they made!

For months and months, my twitter feed was spammed with "ZALFIE OMG1!!1!1!" whenever either Zoe or Alfie uploaded a photo together, and this is why I felt bad for them! It seemed as if they couldn't go one day with people automatically assuming that they were a couple ,when at this point they weren't. Can you imagine how annoying that would be? so well done to both of them for handling it so well!! I have to admit, I did think that they would make a cute couple (which they do) and I'm not denying this, but I had enough sense to know the difference between a joke and an invasion of privacy.

Then about 3 days ago, a close friend of their's called Jim Chapman was innocently vlogging his trip to Vidcon in LA, when in the corner of the video was an image of what everyone correctly suspected to be Alfie and Zoe together as someones laptop background. Bless him, poor Jim must of been feeling terrible for accidentally relieving 'Zalfie' when neither of them were ready to announce it! but Jim (if you see this) It was not your fault and an innocent mistake to make, nobody hated you! If anything, we all were worried that it had ruined your friendship with both Alfie and Zoe and we are so happy that it hasn't!

Now that's out of the way, this is the actual fangirl view on 'Zalfie': perfect. I cannot even express how proud I am of both of them for handling this sticky situation in the best way possible. I was so so worried that since Zoe has severe anxiety, she would panic to this sudden unveiling of her relationship and I still don't know if she didn't, but based on her 'Zalfie'  post, it looked like she handled it perfectly and I am so proud that she did not let it get to her too badly, because that would have made me and most other fans extremely upset.

Overall, this was such a brave thing to announce to very hormonal and excitable teenagers and I have so much respect for both Alfie and Zoe for following their hearts despite what their fans wanted, and more like ordered.
Also, they have asked to keep their relationship private as they want their relationship to be between each-other as it rightly should, and I know that posting this probably is breaking that ask, but I just wanted both of them to know that I, along with thousands of others completely support there decision
and after this post, I promise not to mention it ever again :)
From the whole fanbase, we wish them both loads of happiest and we're so happy that they are happy together :)

Thank you for reading if you did, but I don't mind if you didn't because this is a pretty picky post that could be hard to understand!

Harry Potter Land | Warner brothers studio tour #1

Hello everyone!! so on Thursday, me and my family embarked on a literal magical journey to the wizarding world of Harry Potter in London! I will admit it, I am a secret potterhead & i'm not afraid to admit it!
The first harry potter film (Harry Potter and the philosophers stone) came out in 2001 when I was 3, so I have basically grown up with flying cars and magic spells, a bit deceiving & disappointing to reality but it was so nice to watch the harry potter grow and finally visit the sets that I spent most of my younger years 'oohing' and 'awing' at!
I'm not even exaggerating when I say that I screamed when I saw the harry potter sign!
((I strongly suggest around now that you once again grab a cup of your preferred hot drink & 2 biscuits!))
*Spoilers alert now, if you are going soon or plan to go soon, don't read!*
Me and my fabulous mother outside of the entrance!

My very excited self putting my hand in Rupert Grint's hand print! (it looks like I have 2 mutate hands im scared)

ACTUAL chess pieces from the ACTUAL first film!

My hand is Daniel Radcliffe's hand print *squeals*

All the portraits and pictures of harry potter characters that were in the entrance (yes the camera already came out in the entrance)

I found Luna Lovegood's potrait! After many years of deciding, I can say that Luna is my absolute favourite character because her character is so random but yet wise, I love it! There is also another reason why she is my favourite character and that is because of how the actress, Evanna Lynch got the role of lovely Luna.
Evanna Lynch wrote to JK Rowling at the age of 11 to look for hope I guess as she was severely anorexic and was literally fighting death. To her surprise, JK Rowling responded in the way a counsellor would, saying how "anorexia is destructive, not creative, and the brave thing was not to succumb to it."
Obviously, this lead to back and forth letters to each-other when eventually Evanna mentioned how she would love to be in a film & so JK Rowling accepted this and said that she could play Luna once she got better! All it needed was a lot of fighting and movitvation from her idol and Evanna beat Anorexia and lived on to play Luna in the harry potter films, ultimately because JK Rowling saved her life and gave her something to fight for! True Story.
Harry's cupboard under the stairs!

The great hall! where all the houses sat for meals and those are the actual costumes worn by Gryffindor members :)

Well this post is quite long so I think I shall make a part 2? if you want! I love doing posts like this because its so like a diary entry, so you look back on them and think 'aw that was a nice day' & I like recording the memories, whether you like reading them is a different story ha!

Arundel Castle | family day trip

Hello Everyone!! So sorry for not posting more but I was getting stressed over my first shift at my first job (which actually went fine, despite the back-breaking work and 11 hour shift) but now that its over I am feeling relaxed and ready to blog again :) So last Friday, me and my family decided to go to Arundel Castle and see what it had to offer! It was a really good day because when I was younger, we always used to visit castles so it was really nice to relieve that experience. Unfortunately, we went aloud to take pictures of the rooms inside of the castle but around the castle we were. I would recommend grabbing a cup of tea/coffee (or whatever drink you prefer) and a biscuit, lets get started!

^This is Arundel Castle, the family who inherited it actually still live in it today, woah.^
^ This is the castles courtyard, it would of been a good shot if that tree wasn't in the way! ^
^ this was the chapel, I'm not religious but it was quite nice. ^
^ This was outside of the chapel, I just thought it was a really nice little garden but how do those palm trees survive in England?! ^

^ this was one of the gardens, and honestly it was so so beautiful! It reminded me of the gardens out of Marie Antoinette if you've seen it. ^
^ This was a really interesting decoration because obviously being in a garden it has the nature theme, hence the holly leaves made out of bronze to decorate the pillars, but inside of this little hut was nothing but walls which were made entirely out of sticks, moss and all things nature! It was really interesting to see and it reminded me so so much of the lost boys hut that they made for Wendy in Peter Pan! ^
^ This was a fountain within a fountain within a waterfall and can I please have this garden?!^
^ I just really loved this fountain ok^
^ This is me and my dad! I think I was laughing and he was pulling a funny face, and that's why I really like this photo :) ^
^ My mum and dad, so cute aw^
^ This is the church opposite and part of the garden ^
^ this was so cute, a little arch way made out of branch and beautifully coloured flowers!^
^ What a creative way to decorate! Just tree stumps used a plant pots! ^
^ This was such a interesting fountain because the crown on top of the water was being twisted and turned but the momentum of the water, nothing else was keeping it floating, I found pretty impressive^

Well that was my day out! It was so lovely and if you live in southern England you should definitely go and check this castle out!
I think the next blog post is going to be extremely exciting, or if it's not the next one than it's the one after next! but hope you are all enjoying the sun or summer holidays :)
